PestMarket is tracking California restaurant pest closures this week using official city and county health records.
As of Sept. 4, the tracker includes pest-related closures in San Jose and Long Beach, with officials using terms including “food subject to contamination from vermin” and “vermin infestation & harborage.”
Two Long Beach businesses have now been added to the list after being closed Sept. 1 and Sept. 2. Neither had a reopening date posted when PestMarket checked Friday morning.
Santa Clara County
Bun Me Up, San Jose
Address: 23 N. Market St., San Jose, CA 95113
Closed: September 1, 2026
Official reason: Food subject to contamination from vermin
Reopening status: No reopening date listed as of September 4
Bun Me Up remains on the Santa Clara County food facility closure list after being closed Sept. 1.
The county describes the reason as food being subject to contamination from vermin but does not identify a specific pest.
Tiki Pete, San Jose
Address: 23 N. Market St., San Jose, CA 95113
Closed: September 1, 2026
Official reason: Food subject to contamination from vermin
Reopening status: No reopening date listed as of September 4
Tiki Pete was also closed Sept. 1 and remains listed without a reopening date.
There’s an unusual detail here. Bun Me Up and Tiki Pete share the same address and closure date, and the county gives both the same vermin-related reason. That doesn’t establish that the two closures resulted from the same pest source, so PestMarket is treating them as separate records rather than making that assumption.
Long Beach
Johnny Rebs
Address: 4663 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach, CA
Closed: September 2, 2026
Official reason: Vermin Infestation & Harborage
Reopening status: No reopening date listed as of September 4
Johnny Rebs was closed Wednesday after Long Beach health officials cited vermin infestation and harborage.
The city’s public record doesn’t identify the specific pest involved, and no reopening date was listed when PestMarket checked Friday morning.
Watch Me Sports Bar
Address: 6527 E. Pacific Coast Hwy., Long Beach, CA
Closed: September 1, 2026
Official reason: Vermin Infestation & Harborage
Reopening status: No reopening date listed as of September 4
Watch Me Sports Bar was closed Tuesday for the same stated reason.
Again, the City of Long Beach restaurant closure records don’t say whether the problem involved rodents, cockroaches or another pest. The reopening field remained blank Friday morning.
What Counts as a Pest Closure?
PestMarket includes a business in this tracker only when an official health or inspection record identifies vermin, rodents, cockroaches, flies or another pest-related condition as a reason for closure.
That distinction matters because health departments also close food facilities for unrelated problems such as sewage contamination, lack of hot water, unsafe food temperatures and permit issues.
A closure also shouldn’t be interpreted as a permanent condition. Long Beach, for example, says a food facility remains closed until the condition responsible for the closure has been corrected and verified by an Environmental Health Specialist.
Once an official record shows that a business has reopened, PestMarket will update its status.
More Closures Have Appeared in Santa Clara County
Since this tracker was first published Sept. 2, Santa Clara County’s database has added several more food facility closures involving vermin-related contamination.
Those include entries dated Sept. 2 and Sept. 3 in San Jose and Mountain View. PestMarket is reviewing those records separately before expanding this tracker rather than adding businesses without checking each entry. The county says its inspection data is updated frequently.
This List Will Be Updated Through September 7
This remains a developing weekly tracker.
PestMarket will continue checking California health department records through Sept. 7 and will add qualifying pest-related closures as they are confirmed. Reopening information will also be updated when it becomes available.
